To facilitate teaching, learning, research and administrative activities on campus, ITSC provides a versatile internet infrastructure with fast and reliable connectivity to the internet world, including major research and education networks. At present, HKUST has connected to Hong Kong Academic & Research Network (HARNET) that is the wide area network for linking up the eight tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and connects them to the global Internet.
The current bandwidth for HARNET connections to local tertiary institutions and the internet are summarized below:
- 2x10 Gbps connections to each institution over Metro Ethernet Network
- 40 Gbps connects to Global Internet
- 120 Gbps connections to Hong Kong Internet Exchange (HKIX)
- 200 Gbps connections to HARNET R&E Network
HARNET Research & Education Node (HARNET R&E Node) is served as a Research and Education Network Hub for linking National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) and Commercial Partners including:
